When a diffuser is used there is no longer a complete positional light source and light can be diffused around 3.2 degrees for irradiation. This makes it easier to adjust the angle during setup and provides more uniform images. However, there is larger light diffraction on the object which can possibly result in poorer measurement accuracy.
