FAQs
Do MORITEX lenses come with lighting features (functions)?

MML "D" type lenses feature coaxial lighting ports or entry points for optical fiber light guides and LED illumination, but lighting products are sold separately. MORITEX offers many lighting options including coaxial, oblique, and other configurations optimized for different lenses, surfaces, and application work-pieces.

What sorts of benefits do machine micro lenses (MML) with coaxial lighting features provide?

Due to their bright-field illumination capabilities, MML products with coaxial lighting features are optimal for the recognition and high-magnification observation of specular glass, panels, wafers, and other highly reflective surfaces. Telecentric optical system lenses are structured so that the principal ray is parallel to the optical axis of the lens, making them ideal for positioning and gauging applications.

What types of surfaces are MML products without coaxial lighting features best suited to?

The best surfaces for MML products without coaxial lighting features depend largely on the lighting method being used.
In oblique (dark-field) illumination applications using ring lights or other similar configurations, MML products without coaxial lighting are effective tools when inspecting uneven surfaces on mounting substrate parts for marks, scratches, flaws, and solder.
In transmission (surface/backlighting) illumination, meanwhile, MML products without coaxial lighting are often used to recognize transparent/semi-transparent objects, IC leads, through holes, and more.

What types of camera mounts can MORITEX MML and CCTV lenses be attached to?

MORITEX MML and CCTV lenses are generally manufactured for use with C-mount cameras, although some lenses are available with CS-Mount and CM-Mount options. Our lenses are not designed for single-lens reflex cameras (F-mount/T-mount) or other similar devices. MORITEX does however offer large format line scan lenses that can accommodate F-mounts but are designed for the machine vision market.
We do support special order requirements and modifications. Please contact the MORITEX sales team about your required specifications.

Can MML and CCTV lenses be used with three-CCD (3CCD) cameras?

The basic designs of our MML and CCTV lenses are tailored to single-CCD (1 CCD) cameras. Depending on the customer's operating environment, using these lenses with other types of cameras may lead to physical interference with parts (especially when using CCTV lenses), color variability, color shading, and other problems. We recommend consulting with our application engineers and testing out the intended setup before making a purchase.

What is "color shading?"

"Color shading" is a phenomenon that occurs when optical conditions between the camera and the lens lead to a difference in colors at the top and bottom of the field of view / monitor screen.

What do Rear Converter Lenses do?

Rear converter lenses (attachment lenses screwed into place between the lens and the CCD camera) make it easy for users to modify magnification without changing the working distance (WD, or the distance from the end of the lens to the work-piece). Several rear converter lenses can be used at the same time; however, using rear converter lenses can reduces image quality in proportion to the magnification increase.

Is there any way to increase a lens' depth of field?

Although the MML Series uses a fixed iris that prevents users from adjusting depth of field and brightness, MORITEX does offer support for special order requirements, modifications, and full customization for iris attachment and other changes. Please contact the MORITEX sales team about your required specifications.

Is it possible to attach a Prism Adapter to a model in the MML-HR 5M Series?

The MML-5M Series features a high NA, which makes the image more susceptible to the effects of figure tolerance when a prism or mirror is placed along the optical axis. These effects can prevent the products from performing as intended. Thus, we do not recommend using Prism Adapters for such applications if it can be avoided.

Is it possible to connect a Rear Converter Lens to a model in the MML-HR/HR 5M Series?

We do not recommend connecting a rear converter lens to a model in the MMLHR/HR 5M Series, as doing so may interfere with resolution/aberration performance. If one must be used, we recommend the SOD-X Series rear converters for best performance.
