Light Source FAQ

What are the special features of halogen light source and optical fiber light guide illumination products?
These products have the following special features.
・The halogen lamp ensures a high illuminance maintenance rate. ・The light produced is clear and similar to natural light.
・Using the heat-absorbing filter built into the light source together with an optical fiber enables cold-light illumination.
・The effective length and tip configuration of the optical fiber light guide can be adjusted to conform to a wide variety of lighting configurations and installation conditions.

How long do halogen light source lamps last?
50W (LM-50) lamps have a life span of approximately 2,000 hours; 100W (LM-100) lamps have a life span of approximately 1,000 hours; and 150W (LM-150) lamps have a life span of approximately 50 hours. (Long-life type 150W lamps [LM-150C] have a life span of approximately 500 hours) These values, calculated based on the results of multiple individual-lamp rated voltage lighting tests conducted under conditions established by MORITEX, represent the average life span of each model.

Is it possible to use MORITEX's halogen light source replacement lamps with products made by other companies?
Using MORITEX halogen light source replacement lamps with halogen lamps other than those we have specified (LM-50, LM-100, LM-150, and LM-150C) may cause accidents or prevent the products from performing as intended. Please use the replacement lamps with MORITEX products.

Do MORITEX halogen light sources alert users when lamps have burned out?
MORITEX halogen light sources (the MHF Series) include a standard function that detects lamp burnout and outputs a corresponding signal. Optional functions that detect lamp overcurrent and abnormal temperature increases inside the device can also be added at shipping (although some models include these functions as standard equipment).

Is the light intensity volume of a halogen light source proportional to its illuminance?
Volume rotation is proportional to the lamp's applied voltage (0-5 V), but not necessarily to actual illuminance.

What are the remote controlling functions of halogen light sources and LED controllers?
Remote controlling functions are required in order to control illumination (lighting lamps, turning off lamps, and controlling light intensity) from an external device. Remote controlling functions are available in an analog type (applied voltage) and a digital type.

What are the specifications and connection methods of the halogen light source remote controls?
Each product in the MHF Series has different specifications and connection methods. Please refer to the appropriate product instruction manual, delivery specifications, and other relevant documentation.

Is it possible to connect LED illumination to a halogen light source device?
For function-related reasons, LED illumination cannot be connected to a halogen light source device. When using MORITEX LED illumination, please use an LED controller that matches the corresponding model series.

When is the shutter built into a halogen light source used?
The shutter is an applied voltage type mechanical device used to turn the illumination on and off at high speeds (this option can be added at shipping).

Is it possible to add a built-in shutter and/or an external digital light intensity control to a halogen light source? Is it possible to modify these items?
As built-in shutters and external digital light intensity controls are options added at shipping, they cannot be added to devices or modified later. If you would like either or both of these items, please indicate so at the time of purchase.

In the product documentation for 50W and 100W halogen light sources, does the "――――" in the "fuse" field mean that these models do not need any fuses?
These products feature built-in fuses. They are also designed to prevent customers from changing the fuses.

What is the best way to fix a halogen light source/LED controller in place?
For the MHF-H, MHF-C, and MHF-M Series of halogen light sources, please use the MHF-PT001 device installation metal fixtures. Please contact us about other models. When fixing a device in place, it is important to make sure that the device is installed in an upright, horizontal position and that there is enough space for cooling.

Is it possible to connect MORITEX plastic optical fiber light guide to the MME-250W Metal Halide Light Source?
The MME-250W, which uses a metal halide lamp for its light source, cannot be used with plastic optical fibers due to the high temperatures of its light output part. Please use a glass light guide with end face heat resistance specifications of at least 300℃ (MSG...-HR).

Is it possible to use the MHF-D100LR to light the LM-100-IR halogen lamp?
Is it possible to use the MHF-D100LR-IR to light the LM-100 halogen lamp?
IR illumination devices are special-purpose products. Please use only the combinations specified by MORITEX.

UUV Spot Curing FAQ

What are the special features of the mercury-xenon lamps and ultra-high pressure mercury lamps used as UV light sources for ultraviolet curing?
These products have the following special features.
Mercury-Xenon Lamps
・Mercury-xenon lamps use a mixture of mercury and xenon gas to emit a broad range of spectrum intensity in the ultraviolet region and boast spectral emission lines in the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared regions. ・They also provide and stabilize instant start and instant restart capabilities.
・Mercury-xenon lamps now offer better arc emission point stability, which was once a major weakness, providing a stable light source for ultraviolet curing.
Ultra-high Pressure Mercury Lamps
・Ultra-high pressure mercury lamps have an emission spectrum that peaks at useful specific wavelengths in the ultraviolet wavelength region. ・Although the mercury used in these lamps does not provide and stabilize good instant start and instant restart capabilities, it does release strong irradiation energy.
・Due to their small arc emission points and high intensity, these lamps often serve as light sources for ultraviolet curing that boast high output and a uniform distribution of illuminance.

Is the UV optical output produced by the standard quartz optical fiber light guide (output diameter: 5Φ) 1/2 of that of straight fibers in two-branch configurations and 1/4 of that of straight fibers in four-branch configurations?
Multifurcated light guides (multiple light windows) generate lower UV optical output, but the reduction ratios are not 1/2 and 1/4

How can I use a UV curing device and a Quartz UV Light Guide to perform uniform UV curing over a specific area?
Please use the ML-30U condenser lens and the ML-25QR-L quartz uniform irradiation lens. The irradiation uniformity of the ML-25QR-L is within ±10%.

What are the spectral distribution properties of the different UV light source devices?
Please contact us if you have any questions about or needs for output at specific wavelengths (e.g. : 254 nm).

Is it possible to choose the UV lamp output produced by an inline type UV curing device?
The standard ANUP-8000 Series lineup includes 1-kW, 1.5-kW, and 2-kW models. Special support is also available for 3-kW, 4-kW, 6-kW, and 8-kW needs.

Is it possible to use an optical fiber light guide not made of quartz with a UV light source for ultraviolet curing?
Only quartz fibers and some liquid fibers can be used for UV light sources. The multicomponent glass fibers and plastic fibers commonly used for visible light illumination cannot be used as UV light sources because they have very small ultraviolet wavelengthtransmissivity. Also, due to the high temperatures that occur near the UV light source output part, fibers must have end face heat resistance specifications of at least 500℃ (all MORITEX Quartz UV light guides meet these requirements).

What are the maximum φ and number of branches for light guides?
The bundle diameter on the input side (the light source device side) can be manufactured to any size φ10 (the maximum) or smaller. However, adding more branches limits the bundle diameter on the output side (the curing side).

Output side bundle diameters (ex.)
・No branches (straight): φ10
・Two-branch (bifurcated) type: φ7
・Four-branch type: φ5
・Eight-branch type: φ3.5

What is the maximum line length for light line guides?
We perform line alignment on the tips of the fiber bundle with the bundle diameter (up to φ10) on the line light guide input side (the light source side). Length depends on specifications such as line light size, but for all practical purposes, we can manufacture lines of approximately 200 mm in length. Please contact us about different lengths, line precision, and other items.

What types of optical fibers do MORITEX Quartz UV Light Guides use?
MORITEX's quartz optical fiber products use MSS200/208A and other quartz optical fibers. The specific optical fibers used are subject to change based on corresponding product items and changes/improvements to product specifications.

What is the maximum length for bundled fibers?
pecifications allow for lengths of a few meters to dozens of meters.

Will lamps used in UV curing devices (the LUM Series) burn out once they reach their average life span?
At MORITEX, lamp life span is the average number of hours at which all of the multiple test lamps burn out or demonstrate a luminous flux level below 50% after being lit continuously at rated voltage. Thus, although lamps will not necessarily immediately burn out once they reach their average life span, they are more susceptible to breakage. We recommend replacing lamps early for safety reasons.

Does the end face of the optical fiber light guide on the output side produce heat as well as light?
Optical fiber light guides combine a high-output lamp with high-light transmission optical fibers, thus producing considerable amounts of heat. Please use the MUV-PF heat ray cut filter or a similar product for sensitive surfaces.

What is the NA of the optical fiber used in Quartz UV Light Guides?
The NA is 0.22 (≒12.7°).

How much illuminance dispersion is there between the different branches of a multifurcated optical fiber light guide?
Dispersion is generally within ±10% (reference value).

What is the bending resistance of optical fiber light guides?
Under testing conditions established by MORITEX, the bending resistance is over 100,000 (reference value). Please contact us for more information on installing products on refracted or sliding surfaces.
